Nearly 30 Million PS3's by end of 2009

According to http://www.gamedaily.com/ the world is going become crammed with Blu-ray players in the next few years, nearly 30 million by the end of 2009, and over 132 million by 2012.

As we know the PS3 is the best Blu-ray bang for your buck right now and should continue to be so for some time to come.

PS3 a Wii killer? No, but 360 might have a run for its money this year folks.

PS3 2.2 Firware Lowers Standby Power Consumption - Can't Charge Cell Phone

Of all the uses I had for my PS3, charging my cell phone at night was actually one of them.

Previous to the 2.2 firmware update it could not change my PS3 controller while in stand by (power on in the back, but not in the front) but it could charge my cell phone.

Now after the update it can't even charge my cell phone.

Sony one request please: Make it a option in the set up to allow us to keep the USB inputs hot or not when in stand by.

Feburary NPD numbers re-look. Total dollars spend = PS3 on top

We all love to count the number of consoles sold and claim our side won, and how your side is headed for an inevitable doooooom , however depending on how you look at things you tell a different story every time. If you want the Wii to be declared winner then you show # of units sold, and if you want the 360 on top you check out the top 10 software sales, however if you want to show the PS3 on top then look at total amount of dollars spent on a console.

If we are to break out where gamers went and spent their money on consoles you will see the greatest amount of Gill was dropped on PS3's in February

Dollars spent on consoles shows a different top 5 then just # of units sold:

1) PS3 – 280,800 Units x $450 (Avg 2 SKUs) = $126,360,000 Spent
2) Wii – 432,000 Units x $250 = $108,000,000 Spent
3) Xbox 360 – 254,600 x $359 (avg of 3 SKUs) = $91,401,400 Spent
4) DS – 587,600 Units x $130 = $76,388,000 Spent
5) PS2 – 351,800 Units x $129 = $45,382,200 Spent
6) PSP – 243,100 Units x $185 ( avg 2 SKUs ) = $44,973,500

If you can't stand the red, get back in the kitchen

So apparently Majesco Entertainment's Q1 was a profitable one. Was this due to years of hard work on developing deep games that people will still talk about in 10 years? Or perhaps was it by producing cheep to make games that focus on flipping cartoon burgers?

I will give you one guess.

Need a hint...

Ok, I will just tell you. Its cooking mama, the food making simulation that is sweeping the nation.

Is this a bad thing? Not necessarily but lines like this are: "The company saw 77% of its sales from handheld titles, like Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends on DS"

I wonder just how many companies the lovers of deep games will lose to the casual war. I know that Majesco is lost forever.
